Group Join: 7 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route
The Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the northern side, near the Kenyan border. It is a great choice for group joining climbs, especially for trekkers looking for a quieter and less crowded experience compared to other routes.
Starting about 45 km from Moshi or 69 km from Arusha, the Rongai Route is considered one of the easier Kilimanjaro routes due to its gradual ascent. Its popularity has grown over the years thanks to its scenic beauty, diverse landscapes, and higher chances of spotting wildlife in the early stages of the trek.
Joining a group on the Rongai Route allows climbers to share the adventure, reduce costs, and enjoy a supportive trekking environment. Unlike the Marangu Route, which offers hut accommodations, Rongai is a camping route where climbers sleep in tents. Each day, your tents are set up in advance by the porters, ensuring comfort and convenience throughout the journey.
This route is less traveled and offers a true wilderness experience. It later joins the Marangu Route near the summit, and the descent is done via the Marangu trail on the southeastern side of the mountain, giving climbers the chance to experience Kilimanjaro from different perspectives.
The Rongai trek is typically completed in 6 days, but most group departures follow a 7-day itinerary to allow better acclimatization and improve summit success rates. Climbers can approach the summit via Mawenzi Tarn Hut or School Hut (Outward Bound Hut), with the longer option being more gradual and popular.
